Project name: CENTAVROS - Upgrade of green energy potential capacity and windward breakwater at the Port of Volos

Duration: 01/11/2022 – 31/12/2024

Co-funded by the European Union

Project summary

The project addresses studies for the deployment of shore-side electricity supply, the production of electricity by wave energy and the safety upgrade of the windward breakwater at the maritime port of Volos, which is located on the comprehensive network in central Greece.

The objective of the project is to contribute to the increase of the energy efficiency and the use of alternative fuels contributing to the decarbonization of the transport system in line with the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. The upgrade of the windward breakwater will facilitate the safe access to the port, thus increasing maritime safety.

The project aims to provide the detailed studies and tender documents for the shore-side electricity supply for vessels as well as the preliminary study for a wave energy generation system. It will also include the detailed studies and tender documents for the safety upgrade of the windward breakwater.

Protasis scope

In the framework of the CENTAVROS project, PROTASIS S.A. is responsible for developing detailed technical studies for the electrification infrastructure at the Port of Volos. This includes the development of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies, providing all the necessary engineering services, as well as additional technical studies related to the tender document preparation.

These studies will outline specifications for the Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system, covering the main primary and secondary electrical equipment, the optimal Cable Management System (CMS) arrangements, and cost estimates for the procurement and installation of the future OPS. Additionally, the technical design studies will provide planning design, final equipment and infrastructure specifications, in accordance with international standards IEC 80005-1/2/3, ensuring compatibility for port-to-vessel interconnection.
