Overview
PROTASIS® PPC, short for Power Plant Controller, is a fully adaptable, adjustable and modular solution designed to control RES generation units. Regardless of the scale of the generation plant, ranging from 100 kW to over 100 MW, PPC is a state-of-the art solution, ensuring compliance with the requirements of each country’s connection code.
It provides all the necessary tools to control the production of the plant, while at the same time contributes to maintaining grid stability and reliability, by providing active and reactive power management, frequency support and curtailment management.
Overall, it forms a sophisticated system, essential in modern power plant management, that integrates various aspects of plant operations, to enhance performance, safety, and efficiency.

Characteristics
Characteristics
Operations are performed by two different, hierarchically separated, control levels: local level and remote level. Local operations are managed through the owner’s SCADA system, while the remote operations are implemented through the relevant TSO Energy Management System - EMS.
PROTASIS® PPC supports both protocol and hardwired oriented interfaces. Hardwired interfaces consist of binary input/output signals (BI/BO cards) and analogue input/output signals (AI/AO cards). Protocol-oriented interfaces support a variety of industrial protocols such as MODBUS, IEC-60870-5-10x, DNP3, etc.
Open/closed loop control of the injected active power at the point of common coupling. Automatic adjustment of active power output in response to system frequency changes (FSM, LFSM-O/U) is supported.
Open/closed loop control of the injected reactive power at the point of common coupling. Four modes of operation supported with seamless transition between them.
- Constant Q
- Power factor (cosφ)
- Voltage compensation (AVR)
- Cosφ – P droop curve
PROTASIS® PPC can operate both as a PPC aggregator, controlling the power injection at the HV/MV substation transformer, as well as a local PPC, controlling the power of each individual plant connected at the MV level of the substation.
PROTASIS® PPC is certified according to NTS v2.1 (Norma Tecnica de Supervision), in accordance with the EU Regulation 2016/631.
